bulletSpecial Birthday Wishes on May 4th to Edith Wilcox of Rochester Hills, MN

Edith is the sister of one of our residents. She turns 89 on May 4th. One of Edith's family members made a generous gift to the Travelin' Dreams fund to honor her mother's birthday and remember her aunt here at MVCC.   What a special idea! Thank you so much!

bulletFrom Our Administrator
May is a magnificent month for us here at Mitchell Village Care Center. This is the month that we celebrate "National Nursing Home Week" with both the residents and employees. The theme this year is "Treasure our Elders". We will have a fun-filled week of activities in which the residents and the staff interact in a unique way. Please feel free to participate or stop in to celebrate with us. Below is the list of activities planned!

Sunday, May 13th - Treasure our Women
On this Mother's Day we celebrate all the women of Mitchell Village Care Center who we love as our own mothers and grandmothers. The women of Mitchell Village will receive a corsage at lunch time. Everyone is welcome at 2 p.m. for a "Women's Day" tribute followed by the First Congregational Church service at 3 p.m.

Monday, May 14th - Treasures of Our Youth
The Fifth Grade from Mitchellville Elementary will be here to help us with a balloon launch and a mini carnival for the residents (9:30-11:00). There will be "Pirate Booty Bingo" in the afternoon at 2:30.

Tuesday, May 15th - Treasure Our Talents

Pirating the Art Gallery will be in the morning when we "recreate" a painting without using paints! (10:00) The afternoon will feature "Hidden Treasure's Talent Show" with staff providing the...entertainment!

Wednesday, May 16th - Tapping the Talented
The morning will start off with the 3rd and 4th graders from Mitchellville Elementary entertaining us with a "treasure chest of puppetry" (9:30-11:00).  The afternoon the "Pirate's Booty" will be bingo-ed again. That evening, we'll "shiver me timbers" as the Square Dancers (7 p.m.) entertain on the gangplank.

Thursday, May 17th - A-Hoy Mateys! It's Pirate Day
Staff and residents will become "pirates" for a day (dress up day). Staff will participate in a "Resident Treasure Hunt" where they have to find residents based on clues given to them. They must complete the task to receive their "Booty Bag of Goodies". Staff will be partaking in a pot luck lunch (meat and drink provided 10:30 a.m.) while the residents dine on a pirate feast! In the afternoon, resident's will enjoy watching staff-teams sail their wheelchairs through an obstacle course.

Friday, May 18th - Find the Hidden Treasures
From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., everyone is invited to find hidden treasures at the "Pirates' Cove Garage Sale" (across the street at 113 Carter St. SW). In the afternoon, we've "kidnapped" the talents of Mike Lozano (2:00 p.m.)

Saturday, May 19th - Get Hooked!
This weekend's movie is "Hook" - a story based on Peter Pan starring Robin Willams.
